Rod Szasz
APAC Regional Director

Rod has been with GESS International since the beginning. He has worked in the hi-tech space inside the Japanese and Asian Markets since 1990.

 

As a recruiter, Rod specialized in assisting Silicon Valley companies with knowledge-based products in the area of consumer electronics and life sciences. In 1999 he joined the San Jose Office of a publicly traded NASDAQ company in order to establish the company's first Asian office. That company was voted one of the "20 Best Fastest Growing Firms", by Fortune Magazine in 1999.

 

Building on his roots in Silicon Valley, Rod has since been instrumental in establishing and helping grow the operations of Venture Capitalist and established Fortune Technology companies in the Japan and Greater China markets. He has placed over 75 Country General Managers and over 200 Senior-level managers and numerous Engineering and Operations Director candidates for foreign companies operating in the Japanese and Greater China operations.

 

A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Rod also holds an M.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics. He is a former member of the International Institute of Strategic Studies (London) and former President of the International Adventure Club in Tokyo. He is also an active contributor to human rights, environmental and child health organisations. Rod is an avid adventurer, winter alpinist, and hiker. When not engaged with family activities, Rod can be found on the weekends somewhere in the mountains of Asia.

Masa Koyama
Japan President

Masa was an original member of a NASDAQ traded Silicon Valley based executive search company, who served as that company's Japanese representative in the late 1990s. As the first Japanese employee of this U.S.-based Silicon Valley based executive search company, Masa was instrumental in tapping Japanese talent for fast-growing start-up companies in both Silicon Valley and Japan, bridging the gap between the two countries.

In 2000 Masa brought the skills learned in Silicon Valley hi-tech recruiting to the Japanese market. He has helped develop the market entry strategies and recruiting for software and life science companies entering the Japanese market. He also has a good understanding of enterprise software development.

His experience makes Masa a key contact for technology companies operating in the Japanese and Greater Chinese markets.

 

Masa holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Oregon and is a board member of the Japan Chapter of the University of Oregon Alumni Association. In his free time, he has been involved in competitive motor sports for many years.

Andrew Nishida
Technology Practice Director

 

Andrew is responsible for day-to-day operations and business development for GESS International and leads our Technology Practice Group. Prior to joining GESS International, he was a Senior Consultant for a NASDAQ traded executive search firm, responsible for placing key managers in the IT, semiconductor, test and measurement, and professional services sectors.

 

During his career, Andrew has been instrumental in providing Sales Directors and filling key engineering positions across a range of premier foreign capitalized organizations in Japan. His demonstrated track record of delivering the right candidate has added value to the OEM and channel sales operations of major semiconductor, systems and software clients.

 

He has also recruited key FAE managers, technical hires, design and process engineers for manufacturing operations spanning the consumer digital, computing, infrastructure, and mobile segments. These companies have benefited from GESS International recruitments allowing them to expand their Asian operations.

 

Overall, Andrew has coordinated more than 60 new recruiting engagements with high technology and knowledge-based organizations in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

Andrew holds a B.B.A. in International Business from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In addition to many years competing on the baseball diamond, he enjoys whitewater rafting, training with weights, and exploring the dining out scene in Tokyo. He also is a member of the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce.
